Job search guidelines

Posted by: | Comments (0)

One of the most difficult things to do these days is to simply find jobs. Conducting a job search and getting a good job are two very hard things to do and they generally take a lot of time and effort. However, there are things that can be done to make landing a job a little easier on you.

Searching for employment is a full-time job in itself. Be sure to dedicate a good amount of time each and everyday to looking and applying for jobs. New jobs are posted everyday and you need to be on top of your game.

You can’t expect to find a job by only looking in one place. You need to monitor as many different channels as possible. These may include websites for certain companies you’d like to work for, job sites, the newspapers, and the online classifieds. To make your online searches easier, bookmark your favorite sites and searches.

Always apply for jobs early. This is important because some companies may hire the first person they really like and close off the reviewing process for all other applicants. Alternatively, a company may receive a very large number of responses in a very short space of time and choose to close the application process.

You should never use the exact same resume and cover letter for each job application. Instead, tailor your applications to meet the specifics of each job. You need to address the needs of the company and explicitly describe why you’re qualified to do that specific job.

Some companies will tell you exactly what needs to be included with your application. If they do this, be sure to send those materials along with your resume and cover letter. Your application will not be considered if you don’t send everything in on time.

There may be times when your job search starts getting to you. Remember that it takes time to get a job and that it is important to keep on trying until you land a job that will make you happy.

I majored in Business Administration, so there are a variety of fields open to me; I just can’t figure out what I’d really like to do with my life. I went back to my school’s job placement center to talk to one of the counselors there, and she suggested that I take a career assessment test to help me pinpoint my interests. Read More→

Other than regular stuff like charity work or outdoor activites and work experience, what could you do to stand out as something special out of a million other people who have applied, something to show you are a person that’s got talent to think outside the box…

I work for the government 8-2. I want a job which will look good on my resume (no fast food) where I can work after 2pm.
